Born July 1, 1936, he was the son of John M. Longenecker Sr. and Florence (Burkey) Longenecker, who preceded him in death; as did his sisters: Roberta Longenecker and Nancy (Longenecker) Shepherd.

He was married for 50 years to his wife, Geraldine (Ford) Longenecker. The Lord blessed him with three children: Lorrie (Longenecker) Dunn, wife of Christopher Dunn, Stevens; John M. Longenecker, husband of Debra (Knight) Longenecker, Denver; and Jason L. Longenecker, husband of Kathleen (Harnish) Longenecker, Denver. He was also blessed with 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter due in February.

He loved fishing, beautiful sunrises, flying his American flags in honor of his country, and being with his family. He touched a lot of lives with his amazing sense of humor. His jobs included managing grocery stores, a restaurant, and assembling furniture at a local company. After he retired he worked for an excavating company as a parts runner. He loved working with wood and made a lot of special things for his grandchildren and children. He served in his church as treasurer and served on the board as a deacon and on the board of missions and helped on the finance committee.

There will be a memorial service in his honor on Jan. 6, at 10:30 a.m. at Washington Avenue Bible Church, 149 Washington Ave., Ephrata. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice & Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17552, would be greatly appreciated.
