John P. Lowry, 63, Ephrata postal carrier, Civil War reenactor, musician, enjoyed cruises

John P. Lowry, 63, of Denver, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Hershey Medical Center.
He was born in Lancaster County to the late Dean and Joanna W. (Bigler) Lowry, and was the loving husband and best friend of Sherry (Swarmer) Lowry, with whom he shared 15 years of companionship and 10 years of marriage.
John was a loving and involved husband, father and grandfather who instilled a love of life, learning and hard work in his children and grandchildren. He was a history buff and a Civil War reenactor with the 53rd Pennsylvania Company. He was a musician, playing bass guitar and piano; a handyman; and enjoyed traveling, riverboat cruises, and spending time with his family. John’s smile, sense of humor and compassion will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
John was a 1971 graduate of Hempfield High School. He was a postal carrier in the Ephrata area, having retired after 30 years of service. He was most recently a delivery person for the West Side Radiator Shop in Stevens.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his first wife and mother of his children: Deborah Feirick; a daughter: Rebecca Ann, wife of David Watson, of Ephrata; a son: John Robert Lowry and partner Stephanie Miller of Greensburg; three step-children: Andrew Krick, Melanie Baffuto, and Austin Krick, all of Denver; 10 grandchildren: Lily, Quinn, Julian, Nolan, Trayton, Julia, Xavier, Gabriel, Faith, and Carson; two brothers: Thomas D., husband of Elizabeth (Fink) Lowry, of Lancaster; and Charles, husband of Tracy Bronk, of Vermont.
A celebration of life was held July 17 at Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, Denver. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in John’s memory be made to either ChildFund International, 2821 Emerywood Parkway, Richmond, VA 23294; or to Make-a-Wish Foundation of the Susquehanna Valley, 1054 New Holland Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17601.
Arrangements by Roseboro Stradling Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., Denver. Online condolences can be given at roseborostradling.com.
