Joseph Ammon Long, 71, Ephrata, Vietnam vet, Brubacher Excavating retiree, enjoyed cycles

Joseph Ammon Long, 71, of Ephrata, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in Lancaster to the late Bernard Long and Bernice (Leonard) Meisinger and was the husband of Henrietta (Weik) Long, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage.

He was a member of LCBC in Ephrata, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, motorcycling, and wood burning crafts. Joseph graduated from the Scotland School for Veterans’ children, and served as a veteran himself in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. He retired from Brubacher Excavating in October of 2007.

In addition to his wife, Joseph is survived by a son: Joseph Allen Long of Oregon City, Ore.; a daughter: Kristina Marie Long of Ephrata; a grandson: Daniel James Long of Ephrata; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Raymond Carl Long.

Graveside services were held April 26 at Memory Gardens Memorial Cemetery, Ephrata, with Gary Carter officiating. Military rites were accorded by the Red Rose Honor Guard and the Vet 21 Salute Honor Guard.
