June L. Simmons, 86, worked for CV School District, Phils and PSU fan, avid gardener

June L. Simmons, 86, formerly of Farmersville, passed away April 11, 2018, at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy.

June was born in Lancaster on June 5, 1931, to William C. Ditzler and Eleanor M. (Rineer) Ditzler.

Surviving June are five children: Lorraine Deibler of Marietta; Elaine, wife of Michael Sernoffsky of Elizabethtown; Ronald, husband of Cindy Simmons of Leola; Rodney Simmons of Brownstown; Doreen, wife of Jason Kepple of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are June’s siblings: Louise Stauffer (Ted) of Harrisburg; Lee Thomas (Mike) of Brickerville; Anita Brown of Ephrata; Terry Ditzler (Audrey) of Lancaster; and Betty Hoar (Pete) of Lititz.

Preceding June in death were her parents; her loving husband of 67 years: Ira W. Simmons Jr.; a son: Russell Simmons; a grandson: Jason Deibler; and a brother: William D. (Don) Ditzler.

June was an avid Phillies, Eagles, Penn State, and Duke Blue Devils fan. She loved gardening and working with the soil. She adored her family and attended all activities that involved her grandchildren. June was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Ephrata.

She worked for Conestoga Valley School District for many years, performing an amazing number of different tasks. She was a familiar face at Brownstown Elementary School.

A viewing will be held on Friday, April 20, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 167 E. Main Street, Ephrata, followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. with Pastor Karen Minnich-Sadler officiating. Interment will take place in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, 531 N. State St., Ephrata.
