Kenneth Young, 74, former Ephrata Lions president
Kenneth S. Young, 74, of Willow Valley, formerly of Ephrata, passed away Nov. 21, 2012, at Willow Valley Lakeside.
He was born in Brickerville, Elizabeth Township to the late William and Mazie (Spangler) Young and was the husband of Ellanora J. (Beck) Young, with whom he shared 10 years of marriage.
Kenneth was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Ephrata, and presently a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, Willow Street. He was an avid fisherman and also held memberships with the Ephrata Lions, where he was a past President and maintained perfect attendance, a member and past President of Lancaster Association Life Underwriters, a charter member of Denver Jaycees and a member of Lewes Lions. He served as a Judge of Elections for Ephrata’s 4th Ward for 16 years. During his working years, Kenneth worked in sales for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, where he retired in 1994 after 26 years. He served his country in the US Army from 1956-1958 in Germany, Specialist 4th Class.
In addition to his wife, Kenneth is survived by three daughters: Audrey L. Baker of Ephrata, Allison L., wife of Andrew Shirker of Phoenixville, Marcia A., wife of Joshua Thomas of Maplewood, N.J.; six grandchildren: Phillip and Patrick Baker, Aaron, Alexander, and Adam Shirker, Clyde Thomas; two great-grandchildren: Sara and Christopher Baker; two stepsons: Timothy L. Barr husband of Kathy of Ephrata, B. John Barr of Ephrata; a stepdaughter: Ann-Marie Gunselman of Willow Street; two step grandchildren: Jordan C. and Tyler R. Gunselman; three sisters: Mildred Wonder of Lititz, Jeanette, wife of Earl Frable of Lititz, and Evelyn Steffy of Lititz.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Howard and William Young; and four sisters: Edith May, Miriam Groff, Bernetha Birkenbine and Alta Myer.
A visitation will be held Dec. 1, from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the Ascension Lutheran Church, 600 East Penn Grant Road, Lancaster, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., with Rev. Steven R. Bowser officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
