Loren James McRae, 82, Reinholds, professor, was missionary in Thailand, Korea vet

Loren James McRae, 82, of Reinholds, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at his residence.

He was born in Detroit, Mich., to the late Telford and Beatrice McRae and was the husband of Donna A. (Altstaetter) McRae.

Loren was a member of the Ephrata Community Church and Harvest Net. He was a missionary in Thailand from 1959-1975, and enjoyed gardening and oil painting. He was a college professor at Detroit Community College and also Valley Forge Christian College, where he retired from in 1991. He then went on to be a counselor and teacher at Teen Challenge and was also a director of the Breath of Life Ministries. Loren served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

In addition to his wife, Loren is survived by two sons: John S., husband of Janet (Whittington) McRae of Mohnton, Billy G., husband of Stacy (Wampole) McRae of Reinholds; two daughters: Marilyn M., wife of Tom Wails of Wyomissing, Sharon W., wife of Frantz Santiago of Ephrata; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three siblings, Kathleen, wife of Chuck Chandler of Kent, Ohio, Jack, husband of Cecily McRae and Shirley Debord of Rock Hill, S.C.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
