Malinda E. (Horn) Gage, 98, Conestoga Valley reading teacher, published author, world traveler

Malinda Elizabeth (Horn) Gage, 98, of Lancaster, passed away Jan. 11, 2017 in Ephrata.

On Jan. 10, Malinda went to bed telling her nurse “I’m going home tomorrow,” and she woke up on Jan. 11 to meet with her departed family and friends in Heaven.

Memorial services will be held 2 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 27, at The Groff Family Funeral Service, 528 W. Orange St., Lancaster, with the Rev. Jennifer Mattson of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Malinda was born in Monroeville, Ohio, to the late William C. Horn and Florence Elizabeth (Baird) Horn on Dec. 25, 1918.

She graduated from Fostoria Ohio High School (1936). She married the late John B. Gage on March 19, 1943, in Norwalk, Ohio. She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan, Delaware, Ohio, in 1940. She worked as a reading teacher for Conestoga Valley High School for 18 years. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity from 1937 to 2017, and a lifetime member of the disabled Veterans of America. She was a published author of a remedial reading instructional guide. Malinda enjoyed classical music, playing bridge, operas, going to New York with her granddaughter to watch plays, and spending time at the beach in Rehoboth. Malinda was a world traveler, seeing England, Europe, and Russia.

Malinda is preceded in death by her daughter: Nell E. Summers (Gage).

Malinda is survived by her son: William H. Gage (Kristen); three granddaughters; two grandsons; and six great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Hospice and Community Care of Lancaster, and the staff at Keystone Villa at Ephrata, for their excellent care.
