Marie Knauer, accomplished seamstress
Marie H. (Zimmerman) Knauer, 82, of Ephrata, went to rest in the arms of Jesus at her home Wednesday, May 4, 2011.
She was born in Lancaster County, a daughter of the late William F. and Sallie (Horting) Zimmerman. She was the wife of Alvin A. Knauer, to whom she shared 62 years of marriage.
Marie was an active member of the Ephrata United Zion Church, where she cared for children in the church nursery for more than 25 years, and was a member of the Sewing Circle.
Marie enjoyed family outings, adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, traveling to the mountains and seashore, flower gardening, Phillies baseball and sewing wedding clothing and draperies. She also was a dedicated homemaker and accomplished seamstress.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her three children: Richard D., husband of Barbara A. (Futer) Knauer, of Ephrata; Cindy L., wife of Larry Z. Horst, of Lancaster; and Glenda S., wife of Jay K. Sensenig, of Denver; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother: Warren, husband of Gladys (Holsinger) Zimmerman, of Denver; sisters: Irene, wife of Clarence Stoner, of Fairmount Homes; Mabel, wife of Irvin Sensenig, of Stevens; Violet, widow of Edwin Good, of Denver; and Jane, wife of Abram Burkholder, of Farmersville.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: Chester, Lloyd and Irwin Zimmerman; and a sister: Bessie Zimmerman.
Funeral services were held May 9 at Ephrata United Zion Church with pastors Jay Showalter, Mel Horst and Mark Weaver officiating. Interment followed in the Hahnstown United Zion Cemetery.
