Nelson R. Blessing, 70, Lititz Meals on Wheels, Landis Homes volunteer, enjoyed ballroom dancing

Nelson R. Blessing, 70, of New Holland passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at Lancaster General Hospital.
He was born in Lancaster to the late George and Mazie (Hackman) Blessing, and was the husband of Susan (Hess) Blessing.
Nelson served in the U.S. Army at Fort Carson, Colo., and worked for Penn Dairies and Acme Distribution. He enjoyed ballroom dancing and served on the board of Lancaster USA Dance. He loved his family, trains, and volunteering at Landis Homes, Lititz Meals On Wheels, and at Akron Mennonite Church where he was a member.
He is survived by his wife: Susan Blessing; a daughter: Natalie, wife of Robert Schaeffer of Ephrata; a son: Nelson R. Blessing Jr. of Brunnerville; two stepsons: Michael Hurst, of New Holland, Steven, husband of Hazell Hurst of Holly Springs, N.C.; a stepdaughter: Christina, wife of Karl Dirks of Elizabethtown; a granddaughter: Kaitlyn Demmer of Ephrata; five step-grandchildren: Brianna, Cody, Sofia, and Noah Hurst; Owen Dirks; and a sister: Shirley Harkins of Mount Joy.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 16, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Akron Mennonite Church, 1311 Diamond St., Akron, followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m., with Pastor Rachel Nolt officiating. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Nelson’s name may be made to Landis Homes Caring Fund, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, PA, 17543; or Akron Mennonite Church, 1311 Diamond St., Akron, PA 17501.
