Norene N. Gehman, 85, EHS grad, worked for D&E, involved in the foster program

Norene N. Gehman, 85, of Grand Island, Neb., died Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.

Norene was born April 21, 1931 in Reamstown to Harvey and Nora (Druckenbrod) Noll. She grew up in Ephrata, and received her education at Ephrata High School, graduating in 1949.

She was united in marriage to Marvin Gehman on June 7, 1952 in Denver. The couple lived in Ephrata, where she was employed by D&E Telephone Company in Ephrata. They moved to Grand Island in 1967 where she was a bookkeeper at Brown’s Auto Supply and Desch-Paine Monument Company.

Norene was a member of the Evangelical Free Church and women’s ministry. After retirement she was involved with the Foster Grandparents Program for 15 years. She enjoyed reading and playing dominoes with her neighbors. She was an avid Husker fan. Her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons and daughters-in-law: Mike and Marsha Gehman of Grand Island, Neb.; Curtis and Mary Ann Gehman of Chewelah, Wash.; daughter and son-in-law: Debbie and John Bauman of Oroville, Calif.; grandchildren: Benjamin Holliday of Grass Valley, Calif.; Joshua Gehman of Volga, S.D.; Rebecca Dawes of Grand Island, Neb.; Shannon McInturf of Oroville, Calif.; Alana Bemposto of Chico, Calif.; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law: Anna Noll of Kissimmee, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Marvin; sisters: Erma Noll, Edna Noll, Meriam Hutchinson; and brother: Calvin Noll.

Services were held April 24 at the Evangelical Free Church Chapel in Grand Island, Neb. Interment was in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Pastor Gary Schulte officiated.
