Paul Z. Burkholder, 93, Ephrata, farmer, barn builder, Conestoga Mennonite member

Paul Z. Burkholder, 93, of Ephrata, passed away Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, in Shippensburg.

He was born in New Holland to the late Ezra and Lydia (Zimmerman) Burkholder and was the husband of the late Leah (Martin) Burkholder.

Paul was a member of the Conestoga Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference. During his working years, he was a farmer and barn builder.

Paul is survived by seven children: Irvin, husband of Emma (Weaver) Burkholder of Greenwich, Ohio; Lloyd, husband of Esther (Zimmerman) Burkholder of Ephrata; Etta Nolt of Shippensburg; Ida, wife of David Zimmerman of Williamsburg; Lydia, wife of Marvin Sensenig of Shippensburg; Lena, wife of Earl Zimmerman of Plymouth, Ohio; Naomi, wife of Lester Newswenger of Shiloh, Ohio; a daughter-in-law: Elva Burkholder of Ephrata; 67 grandchildren; 254 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three brothers: Aaron, husband of Ada Burkholder of Fleetwood; Weaver, husband of Mary Burkholder of Kutztown; Raymond, husband of Mabel Burkholder of Medina, Miss.; three sisters: Lydia, wife of David Reiff of Ephrata; Edna, wife of John Weaver of Kutztown; Elizabeth, wife of Elmer Weaver of Kutztown.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Melvin Burkholder; one grandchild; seven great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; three brothers: Eli, Ezra Jr., and John Burkholder; four sisters: Esther Zimmerman, Lena Martin, Mary Martin, and Anna Martin.

A viewing will be held Thursday, Feb. 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Lloyd Burkholder residence, 53 Cocalico Creek Road, Ephrata. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 27, at 9 a.m., at the residence, with further services at 9:30 a.m., at the Conestoga Mennonite Church, Ephrata. Interment will take place in the Conestoga Mennonite Cemetery.
