Paul Zimmerman, active in church, M. Hershey welder

Paul R. Zimmerman, 83, of Hershey, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Hershey Medical Center.

He was born in Ephrata to the late Clayton and Katie (Rissler) Zimmerman. He was the husband of Annetta M. Zimmerman.

Paul has served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher and trustee. He attended Temple Bible Church at Shenk’s in Elizabethtown.

Paul worked for New Holland Machine Company, until he moved to Hershey and worked at the Milton Hershey School for 53 years as a welder/mechanic fabricator in structural trades as well as a sub-house father.

Paul was president of Goodville Hunting Club, a member of AARP Travel Club, M.H.S. Alumni Association and chaplain of Travel Timer Camping Club.

In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons: Thomas L. Zimmerman, of Mechanicsburg; Timothy L. Zimmerman, husband of Beth (O’Connor), of Denver; and Theodore M. Zimmerman, husband of Janet (Harris), of Hummelstown; foster son: Carl Martin, of Martinsburg, W.Va.; five brothers: Ivan, husband of Lena, of Fivepointville; John, husband of Doris, of Ephrata; Earl, husband of Betty, of Millersville; Leon, husband of Lois, of Lititz; and Clayton Jr., husband of Ann, of Ephrata; three sisters: Anna, wife of John David Weinhold, of Ephrata; Erla, wife of Darrell Martin, of Akron; and Ruth, wife of Richard Horst, of Vermont; and grandchildren: Amy, Katie, Jennifer, Joseph, Jessica and Matthew.

He was preceded in death by his son: Robert.

Funeral services were held June 6 at Ephrata United Zion Church with pastors Jay Showalter and Andy Hawes officiating. Interment took place in the Hahnstown United Zion Cemetery.
