Rev. Verna L. Cahill, 74, Church of the Nazarene minister, enjoyed singing, playing piano

The Rev. Verna L. Cahill, 74, of Ephrata, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2016, at her residence.

She was born in Biddeford, Maine, to the late Rev. Gerald and Laura (Stearns) Milliken, and was the wife of the Rev. Thomas W. Cahill Sr. with whom she shared 55 years of marriage.

She was a member of New Holland Church of the Nazarene. Verna was ordained in 1995 in the Church of the Nazarene. She spent much of her life in ministry, teaching Bible study, training layman in church evangelism, working with senior ministries for Baltimore Church of the Nazarene. Verna was a musician who enjoyed singing, playing piano and the organ, as well as giving piano lessons. In her early years, she was an operating room medical assistant in Waterville, Maine. She also started daycare centers in Eldersburg, Md.; and McConnellstown.

In addition to her husband, Verna is survived by four children: the Rev. Dr. Lori J. Cahill of Baltimore, Md.; Melinda J. Cox of Ephrata; the Rev. Thomas W., husband of Sherri (Irwin), Cahill Jr. of Wisconsin; Wendy M. Clouse of Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five siblings: the Rev. Mark, husband of Phyllis Milliken, of Leola; Karen Milliken, formerly of Lancaster County; the Rev. Charles, husband of Paula Milliken, of Dillsburg; Deborah, wife of Michael Thompson, of Indiana; and Timothy Milliken of Boston, Mass.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, Aug. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Stradling Funeral Home, 201 Church Ave., Ephrata. An additional viewing will be held on Friday, Aug. 5, from 1 to 2 p.m., at the New Holland Church of the Nazarene, 428 Ranck Road, New Holland, followed by her funeral service at 2 p.m., with the Rev. John Cahill officiating. Interment will take place in the Memory Gardens Memorial Cemetery.
