Richard W. Sweigart, 84, Akron, railroad worker, attended Middle Creek CoB, Phils, Eagles fan

Richard W. Sweigart, 84, of Akron, passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016, at Fairmount Homes.

He was born in Honey Brook to the late Howard and Thelma (White) Sweigart; and was the husband of Gloria (Gabron) Sweigart, whom he was married 59 years.

Richard was a member of the Middle Creek Church of the Brethren. He was a people person and a jokester, loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, was a West Virginia University football fan, along with the Philadelphia Phillies and the Eagles. Richard worked in the track maintenance department of the Reading Lines and Conrail railroads, until his retirement.

In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by son: Richard W. Sweigart Jr. of Rothsville; daughter: Brenda, wife of Jerry Burkholder, of Lebanon; two grandchildren: Brandon, husband of Danelle Burkholder, of Richland; Brett, husband of Andrea Burkholder, of Lititz; three great-grandchildren: Hunter, Brynn, and Makenna; sister: Shirley Sweigart of Honey Brook.

He was preceded in death by a stepson: Kenneth Gabron; and a brother: Howard Sweigart.

Services were held March 1 at Middle Creek Church, Lititz, with Pastor John Hess officiating. Interment was in the Middle Creek Brethren Cemetery.
