Stephen L. Enck, 93, WWII vet, Dutchmaid retiree, Walmart greeter, ECOB deacon

Stephen L. Enck, 93, of Lancaster, formerly of Ephrata, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at Conestoga View.

He was born in Ephrata to the late Stephen and Katie (Buch) Enck, and was the husband of the late Barbara L. (Showalter) Enck.

Stephen was a member of the Ephrata Church of the Brethren, where he served as an usher for 18 years, served on the stewardship and finance commission, and was a deacon for three years. He was a life member of the Cocalico Post No. 3376 V.F.W, Ephrata Cloister Post No. 429, American Legion, AARP, Ephrata Blue Lodge No. 665 F. & A.M., Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, Reading Consistory 32nd Degree Mason and Lancaster County Club of the Reading Consistory.

Stephen was a World War II veteran serving in Europe as a driver with the 93rd Chemical Mortar Battalion. He retired in 1985 after 36 years with the former Dutchmaid. He had also worked as a messenger for the former CoreStates Bank, and most recently worked as a greeter at Walmart.

He is survived by a daughter: Karen Enck of Ephrata; a son: Kenton D., husband of Tina (Reber) Enck, of Akron; two grandchildren: Lisa M., wife of Ryan C. Stauffer; Ryan C. Enck, fiancé of Erin E. Pennabecker; three great-grandsons: Brady R., Dayton J. and Nash H.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers: F. Earl and Mark B. Enck; and an infant brother and sister.

A memorial service was held Jan. 9 at Ephrata Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Rob Eshleman officiating. Interment was in the Lincoln Cemetery, with military honors accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard.
