Sylvia Breneman, 99, USAF observer, auxiliary leader
Sylvia Hamlin Breneman, 99, of Ephrata, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at Golden Living Nursing Center, Reading.
She was born in Akron to the late Rufus and Bertha (Ravegum) Hamlin. She was the wife of the late John K. Breneman, who passed away in 1993.
Sylvia was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Denver. She received her "Wings" award from the U.S. Air Force in 1951 as an observer. Sylvia was also a past president of the Akron Fire Company Auxillary, a member of the Ephrata Golden Years Club and served as a Cub Scout den mother for approximately three years. She had a passion for traveling and fashion. Sylvia lived independently until late December. During her working years, she worked for Miller Hess Shoe Company and later retired from BARUBE Shoe Company.
Surviving are a stepdaughter: Joanne (Breneman), wife of Irvin Morey Sr., of Millsboro, Del.; daughter-in-law: Joan, wife of the late Nevin L. Glatfelter, of Lancaster; granddaughter: Wendy Glatfelter Jarrett, wife of Daniel Jarrett, of Lancaster; three grandsons: Scott M., husband of Angela Glatfelter, of Richmond, Va.; Jerome M. Grube, of Ephrata; Bryan K. Glatfelter, of Lancaster; two great-grandsons: Dustin M. Grube, of Ephrata; and Tyler M. Duschl, of Lancaster; three step-grandsons: Bret Morey, Kent Morey and Irvin Morey Jr.; and five step-great-grandchildren: Kevin Morey, Justin Morey, Christie Coleman, Angeline Tryer and Michael Morey.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her a son: Nevin L. Glatfelter; and daughter: Bonnie L. Grube.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in the Bergstrasse Lutheran Cemetery.
