Velma M. Wert, 74, Ephrata, worked at Bollman Hat Factory, enjoyed singing, Flyers fan

Velma M. Wert, 74, of Ephrata, passed away Friday, July 31, 2015, at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, after a brief illness.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel B. Wert. Born in East Earl, she was a daughter of the late Clayton M. and E. Alberta (Shirk) Gehman.

Velma had been a seamstress at Bollman Hat Factory, Adamstown, for more than 30 years. She enjoyed puzzles, singing in the choir, and all professional sports, especially Flyers hockey.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Alan D. Wert, married to Carol L. (Bollinger), of Wales, UK; and Lucinda F. Walker, married to Tony, of Ephrata; her sisters: Eileen J. Steffy, married to Richard K., of Ephrata; Caroline F. Messner of Terre Hill; Jewel A. Stauffer, married to Ralph S., of East Earl; Karen J. Auker of Mohnton; and Rowena K. Hyndman, married to Keith A., of Mohnton; her brothers: Sylvan R. Gehman Sr., married to Shirley Ann (Wise) Gehman, of Ephrata; Elvin L. Gehman, married to Mischele Ann (Frantz) Gehman, of Schoeneck; and Larry L. Gehman of Bowmansville; and her grandchildren: Dylan P. Wert, Cerys A. Wert, Brenin R. Wert; and Brittany A. Fasnacht.

She was preceded in death by her sister: Rose Marie Wolfe; and her brother: Wilmer J. Gehman.

Services were held Aug. 5 at St. John’s Center United Church of Christ, East Earl. Interment was in the Center Union Cemetery.
