Victor S. Sweigart, 84, Army vet, equip. operator, fire company life member
Victor "Vic" Stanley Sweigart, 84, of Ephrata, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at his residence.
He was born in East Earl Township to the late Ellsworth Sr. and Martha (Steinmetz) Sweigart and was the husband of Rosene A. (Eckert) Sweigart, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.
Vic was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, Lititz. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. During his working years, he worked as a heavy equipment operator for J.G. Baker Sons, Murray Homebuilders and Martin Limestone. He was a life member of the Brunnerville Fire Company, he enjoyed walking and was a member of the Early Bird Walkers, he also enjoyed hunting, going to the mountains and traveling to West Virginia with family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Jeffrey D., husband of Lisa (Haller) Sweigart of Ephrata; Virginia K., wife of Mike Phillips of Ephrata; Trina L., wife of Tim Siegrist of Lititz; grandchildren: James Michael and Daniel Phillips; Kaitlyn Sweigart; step grandchildren: Bradley Snyder and Samantha Ressler; great-grandchildren: Abby, Rian, Kavin, Miranda, Brianna Phillips; step great-granddaughter: Casey Roy; brothers: Frank Sweigart of Manheim; Ellsworth Jr., husband of Gloria Sweigart of Akron; Warren, husband of Linda Sweigart of Hinkletown; sisters: Eleanor Hertzog of Akron and Irene, wife of Sonny Miller of Lititz.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Clarence Sweigart and a sister: Verna Gerhart.
A viewing will be held Oct. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stradling Funeral Home, 30 N. 9th St., Akron. An additional viewing will be held Oct. 19 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, 40 E. Orange St., Lititz, followed by his funeral service at 10 a.m. with Pastor Harry Dow officiating. Interment will take place in the Brunnerville United Methodist Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Red Rose Veteran’s Honor Guard.
