Walter Ray Long, 79, Conestoga Wood retiree, Amish taxi driver, enjoyed camping, hunting

Walter Ray Long, 79, of Stevens, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at home.

He was born in Brecknock Township to the late Sylvester and Anna G. (Witmer) Long, and was the husband of Doris Fay (Fryberger) Long, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.

Walter was a member of East Cocalico Church of the Brethren. He formerly worked as a butcher for Youndt Sons, retired from Conestoga Wood, and later drove taxi for the Amish after retirement. He enjoyed camping, hunting in Potter County, and vacationing on several islands. Walter was a member of Reamstown Lions Club and Reamstown AA.

In addition to his wife, Walter is survived by three sons: Terry Lee, husband of Karen Long; Randy Dean, husband of Erma Long; Dennis Ray, husband of Cathy Long; a daughter: Tracy, wife of Jim Conley; seven grandsons; two step-grandsons; four step-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; one step-great-granddaughter; six step-great-grandsons; and a sister: Mildred Hall.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson; a great-grandson; and a sister: Jane Long.

Services were held July 9 at East Cocalico Church of the Brethren, Reamstown, with Pastor John Shaffer officiating. Interment took place in the Memory Gardens Memorial Cemetery.
