Walter W. Shirk, 61, Ephrata native, Fleet Air worker, guitarist, enjoyed woodworking

Walter W. Shirk, 61, of California, Mo., went peacefully to his heavenly home surrounded by his family and pastors on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, Mo.

He was born on March 4, 1954, in Ephrata, to Menno and Barbara (Wanner) Shirk. On Aug. 2, 1974, in Reading, Walter was married to Debra (Sweigart).

He worked at Ephrata Shoe Co. and Fleet Air Corp. of Ephrata. He enjoyed working with wood, refinishing furniture, playing guitar, and singing and spending time with his family.

Walter is survived by: his wife: Debra of California, Mo.; a daughter: Debbie (David) Rissler of Linn, Mo.; three grandchildren: Randy, Rodney, and Bethany Rissler of Linn, Mo.; three brothers: Tony, Amos, and Irvin (Theresa) Shirk, all of Pennsylvania; three sisters: Alta and Ella Shirk, and Marie (Dean) Miller, all of Pennsylvania; 18 nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his sister: Vera Shirk.

Services were held March 5 at Windmill Ridge Funeral Home, California, Mo., with the Rev. Ernie Jennings officiating. Interment was at California City Cemetery.
