Willard F. Gower, 94, ‘jack of all trades,’ enjoyed creating memory and poetry books

Willard F. Gower, 94, of Lebanon passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Manor Care Health Services, Lebanon.

He was the beloved husband of Barbara M. (Eshelman) Gower, also of Lebanon. They would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on June 6. Born in Berwick, on Feb. 19, 1922, he was the son of the late George E. and Nellie (Quick) Gower.

Willard attended God’s Missionary Church, Lebanon. A former resident of the Ephrata area, he enjoyed time with family, walking, reading, creating memory and poetry books, attending Sight and Sound Theatre, and eating out, especially at Shady Maple Smorgasbord. He always said he was “Jack of all trades, but master of none.” He accomplished his lifelong dream of writing a book on the memoirs of his life before his passing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Barbara Clauser of Ephrata, and Lucinda Gabert of Stevens; five grandchildren: Joshua Farrer, Jonathan Bissinger, Justin Gabert, Timothy Bissinger and David Gabert; two great-grandchildren: Justin Daniel and Katie Ann Smith.

Willard was the last surviving of his nine siblings, and he passed on National Siblings Day.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 18, at 10 a.m., at the God’s Missionary Church 2127 Hill St. Lebanon. The viewing will be Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler, at 2 p.m. on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Willard’s memory to God’s Missionary Church 2127 Hill St. Lebanon, PA 17046.
