William Edward Riehl Sr., Formerly of Akron, police detective, ATF coordinator, FBI investigator

William Edward Riehl Sr. passed away peacefully Feb. 26, 2015 at Wuestoff Brevard Hospice House in Rockledge Fla., after a year-long battle with cancer.

Born in Philadelphia, and later a Philadelphia policeman and detective, William served his country in the U.S. Naval Reserves and as a Federal lLw Enforcement Special Agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. William was also the coordinator for ATF of the Justice Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force. After retirement from ATF, Bill was a background investigator for the Coral Gables Police Department in Coral Gables, Fla., and the FBI. Law enforcement and public safety was a passion of his life.

Riehl is survived by his wife of 57 years: Joanne. He was loving father to: William Jr., Robert, Joseph, and Edward; father-in-law to: Donna, Cheryl, and Julie; grandfather of: Shelley, Lauren, Christopher, Alexandra, and Sabrina; great-grandfather to: Meaghan, Kennedy, Felicity, and Clementine; sibling of: Frank, Elizabeth, Carol, Barbara, and Margaret.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 5655 Stadium Parkway, Viera, Fla., at 11:30 a.m. on March 6. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
