Yvonne Sensenig, 92 (or 39, as she would say), of Akron, passed away March 1, 2015, at the Ephrata Community Hospital.

Yvonne was a lifelong resident of Akron, where she was a hair dresser for more than 50 years. She was also a lifetime member of the Akron Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. During World War II, she was a member of the USO. In her earlier years, she enjoyed bowling, dancing, roller skating, and playing the marimba.

She always liked to be where the action was. Yvonne enjoyed playing bingo and going on bus trips with the Golden Years Club. She loved going to the shore with her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Yvonne was a loving mother to: Sharon Czabafy, wife of Peter Czabafy. Sharon and Peter took incredible care of Yvonne in her golden years. She was a loving grandmother to four lucky people: Michael Cahill, husband of Jennifer Cahill of Akron; Tim Cahill, husband of Corinne Cahill of Ephrata; Karen Walters, wife of Corey Walters of Denver; and Shannon Reynolds, wife of David Reynolds of Parkesburg. She had eight great-grandchildren who gave her joy each day: Brandon Cahill, Matthew and Gordon Cahill; Brianna Jones; Austin Burkholder; Ryan Reynolds: and Karli and Dawson Walters. She would’ve become a great-great-grandmother in June. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Sadie and Emery Strohm; a son: Bruce Sensenig; two sisters: Ethel Balmer and Irene Shirk; and two brothers: Emery Strohm Jr. and Luke Strohm.

Yvonne was an inspiration to many. She was always cheerful and full of life. She was one of the most active 90-something year-old women you’d ever meet. She touched the lives of many and will never be forgotten by the ones she touched.

Services were held March 6 at Akron Church of the Brethren, Akron, with Pastor Tom Weber officiating. Interment was in the Middle Creek Brethren Cemetery.

If desired, memorial contributions in Yvonne’s memory may be made to the Akron Church of the Brethren, 613 Main St., Akron, PA 17501 or the Akron Volunteer Fire Company, 1229 Main St., Akron, PA 17501.

Arrangements by Stradling Funeral Homes, Inc., Akron/ Ephrata. Online condolences can be given at stradlingfuneralhome.com.
