EPHRATA - The trustees of the Mary Duke Biddle Foundation of Durham, North Carolina
have announced recently they are honoring 1973 Ephrata High School
graduate Douglas C. Zinn, with a scholarship fund at Duke
University.
In a letter to Zinn, foundation chairman Mary Duke
Trent Jones stated, "We do this in recognition of your loyalty and
dedication to the Foundation and to Duke University.
"Your hard
work and enthusiasm have contributed immeasurably to the success of the
Foundation's mission and we are all very proud of you," the letter
concluded.
This will amount to $250,000 being available in the fund
for incoming Duke freshmen.
According to Keith Lawrence, director of
media relations, Duke Office of News and Communications, The Mary Duke
Biddle Foundation, a longtime supporter of Duke University, made a gift of
$125,000 to establish a new undergraduate scholarship at Duke. This
contribution will be matched with $125,000 from the Financial Aid
Initiative Challenge Fund. The scholarship will be awarded for the first
time this fall.
"By establishing this scholarship, we are proud to
support Duke's policy of ensuring that every eligible student who is
admitted to Duke can afford to attend," said Mrs. Jones. She and the other
board members surprised foundation executive director Zinn by naming the
scholarship fund in his honor.
Zinn, a 1979 Duke grad, is the son
of Mary and Charles Zinn, formerly of Ephrata and now of Durham.
