Ephrata threesome headed to nationals

By on March 21, 2012

Three Ephrata youths are members of the Lancaster Firebirds Bantam AA Ice Hockey team which recently qualified for Nationals.

Eighth grade forwards Steven Zuziak and Chase Weik, along with EHS freshman defenseman Alex Seibel are members of the Bantam AA squad which captured a berth to represent Eastern PA on the national stage.

The Firebirds proved their power last weekend, capturing the 2011-12 DVHL Bantam AA tournament championship.

The Firebirds (43-10-7) opened the Saturday morning District match-up against the second seed Warwick Wildcats with an impressive hard fought 4-2 come-from-behind victory.

The afternoon game was all that was needed to secure their trip to Nationals. After jumping to a fast 4-0 start in the first period during the afternoon skate, the Wildcats closed the gap in the second period to a one-goal difference. But Lancaster wouldn’t be denied in the third, dominating play (7-3) to bring home the District banner for the first time in 40 years.

The Tier II National Championship will be held in Wayne, NJ, March 28 through April 1. More NATIONALS, page B-4
