Cocalico graduate Savannah Graybill captured her second-straight USA Skeleton National Championship this past weekend.

Cocalico High School graduate Savnnah Graybill successfully defended her USA Skeleton National Championship titles in Lake Placid, N.Y. this past weekend.

She and male champion Matt Antoine bot only both defended their 2014 crowns but shattered track records in the process.

“This is a great finish to the season, and we again have to thank Tony Carlino and his crew for coming through with track record ice,” said Tuffy Latour, USA Skeleton head coach. “Congratulations to all the athletes for finishing a very hard and long season.”

In the women’s race, Graybill set the pace by breaking her own track record set last March in the 2014 USA Skeleton National Championships by 0.18 seconds with a run of 55.04.

“It felt good,” Graybill said. “I knew the ice would be in great condition. Coming out today my goal was to break the track record, and Matt crushing his record yesterday motivated me. It was so impressive, and I knew the track record was going to do whatever possible to make the same conditions today. I was going for it.”

Graybill posted the fastest run in the final heat, 55.27 seconds, to claim her second career USA Skeleton National Championship crown with a total time of 3:41.42.

“I had a lot of ups and downs this season and I wanted to finish with consistency,” Graybill said. “I felt at home on my sled again over these last two days. I’m excited about summer training, and I have a lot of work to do before next season.”

Annie O’Shea (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) moved up from third to secure the silver medal after clocking third and fourth run times of 55.12 and 55.68 seconds for a two-day combined time of 3:42.39.

Megan Henry (Roxbury, Conn.) claimed bronze with a cumulative time of 3:42.73 after sliding to the finish in 55.38 and 55.78 seconds to conclude a successful season back on her sled after a medical hiatus.

Antoine dominated by posting the fastest start and finish times along with yet another record-breaking downtime. The 2014 Olympic bronze medalist kicked off the men’s race with a push time of 4.98 seconds before crushing the track record he set yesterday by 0.11 seconds with a run of 53.13.
