Mounts place fifth at pair of Section One tilts
The Ephrata High School golf team earned a pair of fifth place finishes this past week in Section One action.
Last Wednesday at Four Seasons (Hempfield), the Mounts collected a team score of 349 strokes to go 2-5 on the day. Ephrata defeated both Warwick (364) and Conestoga Valley (365) while suffering losses to Manheim township (300), Cedar Crest (330), Hempfield (337) and Penn Manor (340).
Individually, the Mounts (6-12 on the season) were led by Nick Hatch, who finished tied for second with Andy Butler of Manheim Township with a round of 76. Mitchel Storb was next for Ephrata with an 86, followed by Matt Kreider (92) and Aaron Hubbard (95).
Ryan Dornes of Manheim Township was medalist for the day with a round of 67.
The Section One golfers were right back at it Thursday afternoon at Overlook (Warwick) where Township remained undefeated in team competition with a team score of 289. The rest of the field included: Hempfield (314); Cedar Crest (324); Penn Manor (336); Ephrata (338); Warwick (348) and CV (367).
Hatch was low man for the Mounts, firing a round of 78. Storb was next with an 83 while Kreider (88) and Hubbard (89) rounded out the lineup.
The next scheduled Section One match is set for Wednesday at Fairview in Quentin, beginning at noon.
Cocalico, meanwhile, was in action this past Thursday in a Section Two match at Tanglewood where the Eagles went 2-4 on the day.
Garrett Strunk led the Eagles with a round of 84. Ethan Miller was next with a 90, followed by both Brett Kupp and Mitch Stauffer, who each shot 94.
Solanco captured the team title with a score of 322. Manheim Central was next with 339, followed by L-S (354), Cocalico (362), E-town (377), Garden Spot (388) and Lebanon (482).
Solanco’s Conner Sheehan posted a round of 72 to earn medalist honors.
Section Two will return to action Wednesday afternoon at Iron Valley (Manheim Central). Action begins at noon.
