After an extensive coaching search, Ephrata has decided to promote from within to fill its vacant girls’ basketball position.
At Monday’s monthly Ephrata school board meeting, Todd Moyer, an assistant in the program for the past five years, received board approval to succeed Mike Garman as the Lady Mounts next girls’ hoops coach.
The 50-year-old Moyer, who has no prior head varsity coaching experience, is a mathmatics professor at Towson University in Baltimore, and is graduate of Cocalico High School and Temple University.
Garman spent 15 total seasons at the helm in two separate stints (‘96-’01 & ‘08-’16), going a combined 176-174 during that span. His teams won Section Two titles in 2009 and 2013 before winning the section this past season with a 13-11 overall mark. He was named L-L League Coach of the Year in the 2000 season.
Garman stepped down in late February following a season-ending loss to Cedar Cliff in District play, to devote more of his time to his family.
