Adamstown students practice good habits

By on January 29, 2014

At Adamstown Elementary, Dr. VanDeusen is using Sean Covey’s book “The 7 Habits of Happy Kids” to teach students healthy habits for life. Each month, a “habit” as described by the book is discussed. Teachers nominate one student a month who most demonstrated the habit of the month. Other students who are nominated by their peers receive postcards in the mail.

In Covey’s story, Pokey the Porcupine plays with his friends instead of studying first. Covey explains this habit is the hardest to keep. He says, “We’re all somewhat addicted to doing the urgent thing or the easier thing first.” Covey quotes a wise person that once said, “Do what you have to do so you can do what you want to do.” Next month’s winners will practice the habit “think win-win.”
