East Cocalico Police Report, March 29, 2017

The East Cocalico Police Department reported the following:

DUI: A crash occurred in the 1800 block of North Reading Road, East Cocalico Township, Jan. 14. Freedom Dowlin, 19, had consumed alcohol prior to driving and a blood test revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.088 percent. Passengers Nickolas Groff, 19, and a 16-year-old male were injured in the crash and required medical treatment. Both had consumed alcohol and were in possession of alcohol. Dowlin was charged with aggravated assault while DUI and underage drinking. Groff and the 16-year-old were both charged with underage drinking.

DUI: Officers responded to a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of A-Plus in the 1400 block of North Reading Road, East Cocalico Township, Feb. 11. Nickolas Earhart, 22, was identified as the driver and found to be DUI. Brooke N. Butler, 25, was identified as the passenger. During the investigation, a search warrant was executed and located in the vehicle were two stolen handguns, drug paraphernalia and prohibited offensive weapons. On March 13, Earhart was charged with a weapons offense, DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia. Butler was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

DUI: Joanne Marion Walton, 53, was stopped for a traffic violation at West Church Street and North Reading Road, East Cocalico Township, at 2:05 p.m. March 2. She displayed signs of impairment and could not perform roadside sobriety testing as instructed. She was arrested for DUI. A baggie of methamphetamine was found in her possession and a subsequent blood test showed she was under the influence of methamphetamine, marijuana, central nervous stimulants and narcotic analgesics. Charges were filed and a summons sent by mail.

DUI: Joseph Yori Jr., 62, was stopped for erratic driving in the 2300 block of North Reading Road, East Cocalico Township, at 7:45 a.m. March 2. He displayed signs of impairment and could not perform roadside sobriety tests as instructed. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI and a subsequent blood test revealed he was under the influence of central nervous system depressants. Charges were filed and a summons sent by mail.

DUI: Jonathan Lee Martin, 22, was stopped for a traffic violation at Muddy Creek Church Road and North Reading Road, East Cocalico Township, at 10:28 p.m. March 11. He displayed signs of impairment and could not perform roadside sobriety tests as instructed. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI and a subsequent breath test showed he had a blood alcohol content of 0.110 percent. Several partially consumed bottles of alcohol were found in the vehicle. Charges were filed and a summons sent by mail.

CRASH: Police investigated a head-on collision on Route 222 south involving two vehicles at 1:37 p.m. March 21. A Toyota sedan driven by Franklina Anthony, 30, Reading, was traveling northbound and attempted a lane change. She swerved to miss another vehicle, lost control, and crossed over the center median into the southbound lane. Anthony’s vehicle struck a Jeep SUV driven by Scott Rothenberger, 46, of Wilmington, Del.

Anthony was entrapped in her vehicle and freed by Denver Rescue and Reamstown fire companies. She and her passenger were taken by Reinholds and Fivepointville ambulances to Lancaster General Hospital with serious injuries.

WARRANT: Steven A. Lesher, 28, of the first block of Scenic Drive, Denver, was taken into custody at 10:17 a.m. March 25 after officers discovered he had a Berks County bench warrant for possession with intent to deliver heroin. Lesher was found at a hotel room in the 2400 block of North Reading Road and taken into custody without incident. After being placed into custody, officers located nine bags of heroin, several empty packets and various drug paraphernalia. Lesher was released to the Berks County Sheriff’s Department and drug charges are pending.

A second male found in the room also faces various drug charges.
