Police log: Ephrata and East Cocalico coverage areas

Ephrata Borough Police Department reported the following:

DOG LAW VIOLATION: Police responded to a residence in Adamstown Borough for a dog that had broken into the residence through a screen door to be with the female dogs inside Aug. 14. Police were advised it was the third time in a week the dog had been loose from its owner. The dog owner, Matthew Bacon, Adamstown, has been cited with the dog law violation.

The East Cocalico Police Department reported the following:

BURGLARY: Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of West Swartzville Road for a burglary in progress at 3:59 a.m. Aug. 11. The first officer arrived in three minutes to find Gregory Shank, 30, homeless, replacing items in a shed on the property. The homeowner reported he was awakened and found Shank removing items from the shed. He confronted him and told him to return the items and called police. Shank was taken into custody. A charge of burglary was filed against Shank and he was taken to Lancaster County Prison.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT: A 16-year-old juvenile male was causing a disturbance at the CK Grill in the 300 block of Main Street, Denver Borough, at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 4. He was asked to leave and refused. He was uncooperative with police, charged with disorderly conduct and released to a guardian.

DUI CHECKPOINT: A checkpoint was conducted in the 1800 block of North Reading Road, East Cocalico Township, from 10:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. Aug. 5. Two individuals were arrested for suspicion of DUI, six citations were issued for open containers, and several citations were issued for traffic violations.

CRASH: Officers responded to a crash involving a truck that left the road, struck a utility pole and rolled in the 300 block of East Church Street, East Cocalico Township, at 1:38 a.m. Aug. 7. The driver fled the scene, but returned sometime later. Impairment was suspected and charges are pending.

DUI: Bryan T Salkeld, 43, of the 300 block of North State Street, Ephrata, was charged with two counts of driving under the influence following a crash that occurred in the 1300 block of North Reading Road June 21 at 4:37 a.m. Police units were dispatched to the 1300 block of North Reading Road in East Cocalico Township for a one-car accident. When officers arrived, Salkeld’s vehicle was stuck on a curb in front of a business. Salkeld was in the driver’s seat, attempting to move the vehicle. The left front wheel of the vehicle was spinning, smoking, and throwing up dirt. Officers spoke with Salkeld and determined he was impaired. A blood test indicated that Salkeld had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.28 percent at the time of the test. Salkeld was sent a summons to appear in District Court on the charges.

DUI: Jordan A Tait, 37, the 100 block of North Reamstown Road, Stevens, was charged with two counts of driving under the influence and two traffic summaries after a vehicle accident that occurred in the first block of South Reamstown Road April 22 at 11:03 a.m. Officers were dispatched for a vehicle accident, and upon arrival, Tait, who had struck a utility pole and a tree, had left the scene. Officers were able to locate Tait a few minutes later as he was walking along the road. Officers determined that Tait was impaired and he was taken for a blood test. Results of the test indicate that Tait’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.21 percent at the time of the test. He was sent a summons to appear in District Court.
