‘Souper Bowl’ collection set for this weekend

By on February 1, 2017

Hot soup on a cold day can be one of the most nourishing things — and locals have the opportunity to help their neighbors get some of that nourishment.
On Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3 and 4, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Weaver’s Market on Route 272 in Reinholds is teaming up with volunteers from Faith United Lutheran Church to collect canned goods and monetary donations for the Cocalico-area food distribution ministry, Peter’s Porch.
“Last year 4,600 cans were collected along with $702,” said Pastor Joe Veras.
Peter’s Porch serves upward to nearly 200 people each month.
While soup was the No. 1 kind of canned good donated at the first “Souper Bowl” collection, any canned food item is acceptable. Monetary donations are also useful to this area ministry.
