Edward R. Fernandez as Edna Turnblad

The 1950s are out, and change is in the air! “Hairspray,” winner of eight Tony Awards, including best musical, is a family-friendly musical, piled bouffant-high with laughter, romance, and deliriously tuneful songs.

It’s 1962 in Baltimore, and lovable plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire — to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning teen queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network — all without denting her ‘do.

EPAC Artist Director Edward R. Fernandez will portray Edna Turnblad, reprising the much-acclaimed role he played at The Fulton Opera House several seasons ago. Fernandez will be supported by Robert Checchia and a host of other EPAC favorite performers. Fresh to the EPAC stage will be Alexandra Fleming as Link Larkin.

Hairspray will run from July 20 through Aug. 5 at the Sharadin Bigler Theatre, 320 Cocalico St., Ephrata. Tickets can be purchased at ephrataperformingartscenter.com or by calling 733-7966 x1.
