Aaron’s Books recently announced that the 2018 Lititz Kid-Lit Festival. Featuring, authors and illustrators of best-selling books for kids of all ages, will be held Saturday, Nov. 10 at Linden Hall School for Girls, 212 E. Main St.

Doors open at 9 a.m. The first author signing time is noon, and the second is at 4 p.m. Linden Hall offers free on-site parking. All presentations, workshops, and events are handicap accessible.

What started a decade ago as a small gathering of authors and young readers at Aaron’s Books has become a beloved annual tradition in Lititz, with workshops, authors panels, interactive presentations, and author signings for kids, parents, teachers, and librarians.

“This festival reflects everything we want to do at Aaron’s Books,” says co-owner Todd Dickinson. “It brings authors to our community and it promotes a love of reading. So many families come back year after year, and those kids that were inspired years ago are now writing their own stories. We are so proud of how this event is embraced by our community.”

This year’s authors include some of the most accomplished writers in their field, winning numerous national accolades including a National Book Award finalist, Michael L. Printz Honor, and the Scott O’Dell Award for Historical Fiction, as well as new authors that local young readers will love to discover.

Authors and illustrators attending this year’s Kid-Lit Festival include Lisa Graff, Beth Kephart, A.S. King, Denis Markell, Kevin McCloskey, Joe McGee, David Neilsen, Matt Phelan, Mara Rockliff, Shawn Smucker, Mark Tatulli, and Eric Wight.

Young readers will have the opportunity to learn more about books and writing from their favorite authors, and they won’t want to miss this year’s unique role-playing games. Teens will visit with some of the best in the business. The youngest book lovers will be able to hear wonderful picture books read by the authors and illustrators. And every kid will get a chance to learn more about snails, worms, fish and other underappreciated creatures.

Tickets for the 2018 Lititz Kid-Lit Festival are $5 for children and $8 for adults. They are available at Aaron’s Books and at Warwick High School students can enter for the teen events for free and there is also no charge for children under 5. Only books purchased at Aaron’s Books or at the festival may be presented for author signature.

On the night before this year’s Kid Lit Fest, young adventurers will have the opportunity to play Dungeons & Dragons with Denis Markell, author of “The Game Masters of Garden Place.”

Pre-Fest event

A special pre-festival event has also just been confirmed. Denis Markell’s new middle grade novel “The Game Masters of Garden Place,” is based on his son’s Dungeons & Dragons game (well, except the part where the characters come to life…). He has created D&D characters based on his book, and he’ll help kids play a game in his novel’s world at Aaron’s Books on Friday evening, Nov. 9. This will require a separate ticket and space is limited.
