Take off! Lancaster Airport Community Days this weekend

Get ready for two days of flight and family fun as Lancaster Airport takes to the skies for Lancaster Airport Community Days 2015 Celebration of Flight.

All are welcome to this free and open-to-the-public event rain or shine on Saturday, Aug. 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, Aug. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Community Days is sponsored by Platinum Sponsor Keller Bros. Family of Dealerships; and Gold Sponsors: ARRO Consulting and Oregon Dairy. Parking costs $5 and will benefit the local Civil Air Patrol squadron and Fire Police.

Community Days gives young and old alike the opportunity to get up close and view aircraft, talk to pilots and learn more about the world of flying. This year’s event will feature World War II B-25J bomber Panchito rides, C-123K Provider Thunderpig tours, airplane and helicopter rides and military and civilian aircraft displays. In addition, there will be community business, organization and US Armed Forces displays and RC aircraft demonstrations . Food will be available for purchase as well as ticket sales for a children’s amusement area. This year will again feature the Parade of Planes.

“We are very excited to once again to have beautiful and unique aircraft fly during the event,” says Lancaster Airport marketing and events coordinator, Kim Huber.

Flight demonstrations begin at 12:45 p.m. both days. Attendees will hear a brief history and unique facts about all plans in the demo flights.

Flight will be center stage both days as planes make their way to the Circle of Flight, where attendees will hear a brief history or unique facts about the aircraft, hear from the pilot, and then watch the plane take flight. In addition to the Parade of Planes an air show will begin each day at 12:45 p.m.

“This year’s show is sure to delight both young and old,” says Huber. “We will have a parachute jump, followed by performances in the P-51, T-6, L-39 and the only flying MiG17-PF in the world.”

Since 1996, Lancaster Airport has welcomed the County to Community Days to explore the world of aviation and learn more about their hometown airport. Today’s economic times can make it challenging for families to find activities which won’t break the bank, but Lancaster Airport Community Days is a budget-friendly weekend of fun, food and flying.
