Theatrical makeover at Mount Hope Estate

The 34th holiday season at Mount Hope brings an exciting new change to its theatrical offering. Traditional Christmas tales and caroling will blend with a four-course dining experience to create the Dickens Interactive Dinner Theater, Dec. 8 through 23.

Dinner theater guests will dine inside the Victorian Mount Hope Mansion, magnificently decorated for the Christmas season with 12 trees, each depicting a verse of the “Twelve Days of Christmas,” lavish fireplace mantels and greens. Inside the Mansion, guests will travel to 1899, when Fredrick Schwartz Jr., son of the founder of the FAO Schwartz Toy Bazaar, is throwing a Christmas party fit for the end of a century.

Schwartz has transformed the mansion into a Santa’s Workshop and has invited some of his closest friends, including the game-loving Parker Brothers and their sister, Dot. They have put together a Christmas pageant for everyone.

Prior to the meal, guests will gather in the chapel room for introductions, a summary of the evening and a musical performance. As dinner commences, guests will enjoy caroling and character interaction tableside throughout the various courses.

The evening cocktail hour will feature Mount Hope wines, Lancaster County ciders, Swashbuckler beers, and festive cocktails available for purchase from the newly installed bar in the billiard room. Displayed hors d’oeuvres will be available in the pink parlor prior to introductions.

After dinner, everyone will return to the Chapel to enjoy a performance of Charles Dickens, “A Christmas Carol” to conclude the evening.
