Zig’s Bakery and Café Celebrates Late Summer Harvest

The late summer harvest of peaches, corn, blackberries, tomatoes, apples and more brings an abundance of goodness to Zig’s Bakery and Café at Brick Gables.

With peach season in its prime, now is the time to savor fresh peach pies with juicy peach topping as well as flaky crust peach crumb pies. If you can’t make up your mind, get both. Zig’s even makes mini versions, so you can pick a bunch.

Zig’s is the perfect choice for summer picnics or outdoor tailgates. Just stop by to get everything you need, like pork BBQ, redskin potato salad, quinoa salad, black bean, corn and poblano salad, coleslaw, ham salad, tuna salad, chicken salad, applesauce and Asian-inspired sesame almond crunch noodle zigs-apple-piesalad. Get a loaf of bread or their popular soft dinner rolls, and you are all set.

You can enjoy all these delicious foods from the deli, or stay a while and choose your favorites for a great meal at the cafe. Zig’s Café has freshly made sandwiches too, including the turkey pesto focaccia, curry chicken salad and pastrami on rye.

At Zig’s Bakery, they have lots of fresh-baked bread, such as honey wheat, country white, fl ax, dark rye focaccia, baguette, croissants, cinnamon raisin breads and sourdough boule.

Bakery desserts include fresh fruit tarts with peaches and berries, chocolate peanut butter cupcakes, carrot cake, flourless chocolate cake, lemon cake and the moist Jewish apple cake. There are other desserts such as bread pudding, sticky buns, cream puffs, blackberry pie, blueberry pie, coconut cream pie, lemon sponge pie, fresh scones, quiche and Moravian sugar cake.zigs-peaches

As Brandon Ziegler of Zig’s notes, most of the fresh produce comes from Lancaster County, including Buckhill Farms in Lititz, where the community supported agricultural markets provides fresh lettuces, beans, berries and more.

Now that Zig’s Bakery and Café has marked its fi rst anniversary at the beautifully restored barn on East Newport Road, people are flocking to enjoy the warm, relaxed setting with freshly baked breads, cakes and pies, brewed coffee, soups, sandwiches, salads and deli items. Zig’s has a sophisticated look with stone walls accented by sleek wood tables and modern chairs, wood beams, a comfy red leather couch and a stylish oil painting of a cow. There are deli cases on one wall baked goods on the other, with sandwiches, salads and breakfast made to order.

“We have been in business for 10 years and now more than a year at Brick Gables,” says Brandon. Visit us online at www.zigsbakery.com
