The Laurel Dance Company will hold auditions for its 2015 holiday season “The Nutcracker” ballet on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Footprints Performing Arts Studio, 541 E. Main St., Ephrata.

Performers of all ages and training levels are invited to audition for the classic holiday ballet, which includes selections for advanced, intermediate, even beginner dancers, for parts ranging from tiny angels; to the Snowflakes, Dewdrop and Sugar Plum Fairies and divertissements from the Kingdom of Sweets; to the Stahlbaum grandparents and guests for the Party Scene. There is also a need for male actors who move well and for male performers capable of lifting, for partner dances.

Male parts include Herr Drosselmeyer, Herr Stahlbaum, Grandfather Stahlbaum, and the Butler, as well as dancers in several other scenes. Boys are needed for the parts of Fritz, friends, rats/mice and soldiers. Female dancers on pointe are needed throughout the performance and should bring their pointe shoes to the audition. The audition will include a ballet warm-up, technique demonstrations, and short choreography/direction-following exercises.

The audition schedule is:

* 3 to 3:45 p.m.:  Children and Adults beginning or no experience in dance or theater.

* 4 to 5 p.m.:  Children 8-10 years old with at least 1-3 years of dance experience.

* 5:15 to 6:45 p.m.:  Intermediate dancers with at least 3-5 years of dance experience; pointe shoes if applicable, though not required.

* 7 to 9 p.m.:  Advanced dancers with at least 5 or more years of dance experience; Pointe shoes are required.

A resume/bio and photograph must be brought to the audition. A fee of $5 will be charged for the audition, whether or not ‘call-backs’ are necessary. Financial hardship considerations brought to the Laurel Dance Company Board of Directors will be confidentially considered.

“The Nutcracker” will be performed Sunday, Dec. 20, at Warwick High School in Lititz. Show times will be 2:30 and 6:30 p.m.

The audition will include a ballet warm-up, technique demonstrations, and short choreography/direction-following exercises.
