Senior Kevin Trinh was named the top student among the 328 in Ephrata High School’s Class of 2012 and will be one of the featured speakers at his school’s 117th commencement ceremonies set for War Memorial Field Friday night, June 8, at 7 p.m.

Joining Trinh will be class president Mariah Hatt, and speakers Dagmawi Baykeda, Laura Hepp, David Marchino and Rachel Stauffer.

All candidates for graduation are listed on pages A16-19 in this edition and most are included with their senior photographs.

The graduation season actually began on May 23 when more than $1.2 million was awarded to Ephrata students at the annual senior awards assembly held in the Allen Hammon Auditorium. A full list of award winners was published in last week’s edition.

The baccalaureate service organized by students was held this past Sunday, June 3, at Ephrata Community Church, and featured music, speakers and a "stroll down memory lane" slide show. Photographs from the event can be found on page A19.

Ephrata is one of the few school districts in Lancaster County which still plans an outdoor graduation ceremony. As of Tuesday night, the long-range forecast for Friday on the Millersville University Weather Information Center website is promising, calling for a mostly sunny day, seasonable, with a high of 80 and just a 10 percent chance of rain throughout the day and night. In the event the ceremony would need to be moved indoors, it will be held at the Ephrata Middle School gymnasium and graduates would be limited to four tickets each. All the graduating seniors of Ephrata and Cocalico High School are listed inside this edition with photographs of most. Turn to pages A16-19 for Ephrata seniors, and pages A20-23 for Cocalico.
