The Ephrata Concert Band will feature music linked to Spain and Latin America at its concert July 12 at 7:15 p.m. at Ephrata Borough’s Grater Community Park.

Admission is free. The public is invited to bring folding chairs. In the event of inclement weather, the band will perform a few blocks away, inside the Ephrata Recreation Center at 130 South Academy Drive.

The opening march of the evening will be “Zacatecas March,” which Genaro Codina composed in 1891. That march influenced other composers and became the anthem of the Mexican state of Zacatecas.

That march will be followed by “Mexican Overture,” composed by Merle J. Isaac, and the serenade “La Paloma,” which the Spanish composer Sebastian Yradier composed after a visit to Cuba in 1861.

Also in the first half of the July 12 concert will be King’s “Pan American” march; Fulton’s serenade “Rio Verde;” Yoder’s “Swing Bolero” and “Amperito Roca,” which Jaime Texidor of Spain composed in 1925.

Following intermission, the band will play Bartlett’s march “El Conquistador;” the tango “La Comparsita” that Gerardo Rodriguez of Uruguay composed in 1916; Paul Yoder’s rumba “Relax;” the song “El Relicario” composed by Jose Padilla of Spain; selections from the Broadway musical “Man of La Mancha;” the hymn “Onward Christian soldiers” and the closing march, John Philip Sousa’s “New Mexico.”

Lincoln Fogelsanger will conduct the band.

Hi Mike…it was a great concert! The Ephrata Rec organizes those events and may be able to assist you in getting in touch with the conductor. Rec number is 738-1167. Best wishes,
