Former EHS star athlete, Richard Ueberroth, dies Richard R. Ueberroth

Richard Robert Ueberroth, II, 50, of Stevens, passed away Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011 at Lancaster General Hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Richard Robert and Alice (Podlaski) Ueberroth and was the husband of Lee Anne (Witmer) Ueberroth. They had been married 26 years.

Richard was a 1978 graduate of Ephrata High School and was an outstanding wrestler and football player. He followed the Ephrata and Cocalico sports programs closely and loved to discuss football, wrestling and field hockey. He was a founding member of Cocalico Midget Football Association and loved watching his children participate in athletics, rarely missing a game. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed frequent trips to his cabin in Mifflin county.

He was formerly employed by Weyerhaeuser of Ephrata and most recently by Meridian Products in New Holland.

In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his four children: Richard Robert Ueberroth III; Kyle Ueberroth, Katie Ueberroth and Courtney Ueberroth, all at home; a brother: Kerry, husband of Tracey (Hoffert) Ueberroth, of Stevens; and a sister: Betty Ann, wife of Phil Loht, of Pequea.

Funeral services were held on Sept. 7 at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, Denver. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions in Richard’s memory may be made to the Ephrata Football Booster Club.
