POOL DONNY 1The social media response to Ephrata Borough’s hint that it might install vending machines in place of the snack bar at the Ephrata Pool this summer was swift and unanimous.

“Oh I noticed — like everybody else — that pool members wanted their snack bar back,” said Donny Stover of Denver.

Stover submitted a last minute bid to operate the snack bar and borough council last month gave him the job.

That job begins Saturday during the pool’s traditional Memorial Day opening.

Stover said he runs a series of food stands and employs about 24 people that may rotate to different spots.

He most recently operated the snack bar at the Adamstown Pool and had previously serviced the food stand at Galen Hall golf course.

Stover said he is in the process of determining menu prices at Ephrata Pool changed this year. when Van Bennett of Reading closed. He said the pool will now purchase food from Hometown Provisions in Willow Street.

“I’m open for suggestions on menu items if people have ideas,” he said.

The menu will be a return to a simple fare, Stover said.

“We’ll have pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries, mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, apples sticks, ice cream novelties, all the good stuff.”

The pool snack bar will have the side window open to allow non-pool members to access service.

Stover said he will have a staff of four working, plus himself, working this weekend and will staff as is appropriate as things get rolling.

“I’m still looking for workers over 18 for cooking,” he said.
