Relay for Life schedule

The 2012 Relay for Life of Norlanco to benefit the American Cancer Society will be held on June 15 and 16 at the Cocalico High School football stadium complex. The schedule is as follows.

June 15 at 4 p.m., Relay begins; 5 p.m., Survivor Reception; 6 p.m. Opening Ceremonies–Survivor/Caregiver lap; 7 p.m., Team Captain lap with live music by Joe Lerman; 7:30 p.m., Miss Relay contest on the main stage; 9 p.m., Luminaria Service; 10 p.m., Glow with Hope lap in honor of Gordy Klatt, founder of Relay for Life with live music by Joe Lerman; 11 p.m., Power of Purple lap–wear Relay purple; 11:30 p.m., Banana Olympics (teams of three) and Apple/Kiss contest (teams of two) on the main stage.

June 16 at 12 a.m., Olympic Parade: Going for Gold, A cure for cancer (team event); 1 a.m., Plunger fun, plunger relay (18 years or older) at the center of the football field; 2 a.m., PJ’s and Teddy bear lap; 3 a.m., "Always a Bridesmaid, Never a Bride" lap; 4 a.m., Olympic Countries of the World lap–dress from favorite country; 5 a.m., Crazy Hat lap (prize awarded); 6 a.m., Support our Troops lap–wear red, white and blue– and Rooster Crow contest on the main stage; 7 a.m., country music hour; 8 a.m., Greek Toga lap and Zumba next to the main stage (30 minutes); 9 a.m., Cocalico Alumni Band and Alma Mater lap–show school pride; 10 a.m., Tent Site Decorating contest (judging begins and three awards will be given) and Zumba next to the main stage (30 minutes); 10:30 a.m., Tobacco-free lap and Relay Scrabble Scramble contest (teams of three) at center field; 11 a.m., Honorary Chair and Caregiver lap in honor of Hersch and family and Sumo wrestling matches begin; noon, Sunglasses and Flip-Flop lap and Road Race–teams prepare vehicles for the race; 1 p.m., YMCA lap and Road Race–Advocacy (team event); 2 p.m., Frozen T-shirt contest at center field; 2:45 p.m., Music Chairs Scavenger Hunt contest; and 3 p.m., Closing Ceremonies–Victory Lap.

In addition to the Relay schedule, there are youth activities that will take place throughout the duration of the event. There will be a fun run at 6:45 p.m. Friday with appearances by local celebrity mascots. A glowstick lap and candy scramble will take place at 10 p.m., followed by a midnight movie under the tent. Saturday morning will include crafts under the tent, from face painting and spin art to cookie decoration and balloon animals. These activities end with a huge scavenger hunt at 1:30 p.m.

Also under the tent will be all the Advocacy and Mission activities, from nutrition and stress management talks to free massages. The theme will be ‘Healthy Living’–exercise, clean air, good nutrition, stress management and safe sun. People will have the opportunity to share their stories using Advocacy Story Books.
