Two long-time area officials paid a visit to The Ephrata Review recently to check out the large cardboard cutouts of EHS football players on display in the front windows of the building.

Henner Weaver (left) and Ernie Hartranft, both combined to ref an estimated 145 seasons in several different sports. Weaver, a former star athlete at EHS in the mid-40s, officiated football for 42 seasons, basketball for 32 seasons and umpired baseball another 22 years. Hartranft officiated high school basketball for 25 years and another 20 seasons in football. He also officiated college games. Both Weaver and Hartranft worked together “many times,” according to Hartranft. The key to their success? “You can’t have rabbit ears,” said Hartranft.
