You are not alone!

Circle of Support meets at Lititz Moravian Church; next gathering is Sept. 7

Let’s face it, you can’t open a paper or magazine, turn on television or surf the Internet without hearing about the struggles of addiction.

But if you’re a family member, friend of, or person in active recovery due to drug addiction, you’ve most likely thought, “Who can I talk to that will understand what I’m going through?” These people need encouragement, support, and to learn that they are not alone. The silence needs to end!

Organized, sustained and promoted by Tammy Peat, Kathy Long and Samantha Kendig, Circle of Support, sponsored by ASAP (Action for Substance Abuse Prevention) in Lititz, is just that. It’s a support group developed to provide an opportunity to gain insight, share experiences (what works and what doesn’t work), discuss relationships, or simply listen and take away anything that may help you or your loved one. This is done in an honest, friendly and supportive setting through discussion and interaction. COS guards the anonymity of those who attend their gatherings as well as the contents of all discussions. You may contact Kathy or Tammy if more information is needed at or

In this open forum you are able to share as much or as little as desired. One lady shared, “I was touched by a recent letter in the Lititz Record written by an individual who stated that as much as she loves her son, she also hates him. I’ve been in her shoes and it felt good knowing that I was not alone in my thoughts. Listening to others sharing their personal stories, struggles and victories supports me.”

Nearly everywhere one looks, you will see some information on the addiction crisis facing our society. But there’s nothing like sitting down with peers, in a secure, relaxed atmosphere, as people cultivate gratitude and support toward each other. While deeply personal, no one denies it takes courage, but no one denies it is worth an hour of your time to engage in supporting others and hopefully gaining support for yourself.

COS gathers on the first and third Wednesdays of every month in the Lititz Moravian Church at 8 Church Square in Lititz, from 7 to 8 p.m. This is the same time that an NA meeting is held downstairs at the same location. The church has been extremely supportive and provides free space for the COS gatherings as well as free child care for those attending the NA meetings and COS gatherings. Your attendance is as you wish. There is no charge, and what you take away might be priceless.

Reaching out for support is a positive action of strength, not weakness. The next gathering will be on Wednesday, Sept. 7. Please join them. You are not alone!
