Abraham Wambold, ‘Mr. Billiard,’ pool hall owner

Abraham "Abe" C. Wambold, 80, of Akron, passed away Monday, June 27, 2011 at his residence.

He was born in Boyertown, a son of Abraham and Bessie (Hetrick) Wambold. He was the husband of the late Vivian (Brown) Wambold, who died Jan. 25, 2011.

Abe was known as "Mr. Billiard." He founded Abe’s Pool Hall in the 1960s, owned and operated Wambold’s Billiards, loved shooting pool and shot pool with the great players of the game. He attended Grace Fellowship Church in Ephrata.

He is survived by three daughters: Donna S. Clapper, of Leola; Lee Ann, wife of Randy Martin, of Elizabethtown; and Patti, wife of Terry Kauffman, of New Holland; a stepson: Barry Cunningham, of Grand Junction, Colo.; a brother: Herb, husband of Doris Wambold, of Gap; a sister: Clara, wife of Ed Mull, of Goodville; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held July 1 at Stradling Funeral Home. Interment took place in Riverview Burial Park at the convenience of the family.
