Allen D. Harding Sr., 90, Navy vet, retired from the U.S. Postal Service, avid Philly sports fan

Allen D. Harding Sr., 90, passed away on Oct. 24, 2018 at Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy.

He was born in Mohnton to the late Irvin and Edna (Witmer) Harding, and was the husband of Ethel (Royer) Harding, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.

He was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ, Ephrata. Allen served in the U.S. Navy, and retired from the U. S. Postal Service. He was a former volunteer ambulance driver for Ephrata Hospital and was involved with the Ephrata Lions Club and the Free Masons.

He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan: Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, and Sixers. He was a devoted critic of the Phillies bullpen and Flyers defense. He enjoyed watching Ephrata football, and playing golf. In addition, Al was a member at the prestigious Pine-Hem Hunting Lodge located near Cross Fork.

In addition to his wife, Allen is survived by a daughter: Lyn (Garry) Butler of Mountain View, Ark.; a son: Dr. Lenny (Allen Jr.) Harding and Jill Holochuck of Akron; grandchildren: Gina (Clint) Holderby of Centerton, Ark.; Grady (Sarah) Butler of Mountain View, Ark.; Brennen (Tara) Harding of Palmyra; Aarin (Jeremy) Franck of Ephrata; great-grandchildren: Raylen, Hayes and Dawsyn Butler of Mountain View, Ark.; a brother: Eugene (Nancy) Harding of Pottstown; a sister: Betty Latshaw of Mohnton; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Henry and Lee; and sisters: Shirley Harding, June Lamonica and Barbara Lonaberger.
