Alta Myer, 88, area factory seamstress, active in church

Alta S. Myer, 88, of Lititz, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Moravian Manor.

She was born in Elizabeth Township to the late William P. and Mazie (Spangler) Young and was the wife of the late Richard N. Myer, who passed away in 2003.

Alta worked as a factory seamstress for various dress factories including Ship-n-Store, Rosenau’s, Moyer’s and the Hopeland Factory. She was also a former Tupperware dealer. A lifelong member of the Brickerville United Lutheran Church, formerly Emanuel Lutheran Church, she had been a member of the choir, cradle roll teacher and helped at the annual church picnic for many years. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, singing and flower gardening.

The fourth of ten children, Alta is survived by a son: James R., husband of Sharon (Johnson) Myer, of Stevens; three daughters: Janice L., wife of John Reidenbaugh, of Lititz, Joyce E., wife of David L. Gerstenlauer, of Mechanicsburg; and Sharon J., wife of Jack Yoder, of Lititz; three sisters: Mildred Wonder, of Lititz; Jeanette, wife of Earl Frabel, of Lititz; Evelyn Steffy, of Lititz; a brother: Kenneth, husband of Eleanor Young, of Lancaster; a sister-in-law: Ida Young, of Akron; grandchildren: Joy and Jonathan Yerger, Mark and David Reidenbaugh, Linda, Hannah, Jackson, Barnaby and Elise Yoder, Joshua Gerstenlauer, Pam Hummer and Jere Allison; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Howard and William Young; and three sisters: Edith May, Miriam Groff and Bernetha Birkenbine.

The family would especially like to thank the staffs of both the Moravian Manor and Hospice of Lancaster County for their kind and compassionate care of their mother.

Funeral services will be held on May 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the Brickerville United Lutheran Church, 340 E. 28th Division Highway, Lititz, with Pastor Irvin E. Straw, Jr. officiating. Interment will take place in the Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Brickerville.
