Carol J. Midei, CRNP, 64, Macungie, nurse practitioner and instructor at Ephrata hospital

Carol “Mickey” J. Midei, 64 of Macungie, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2015.

She was the wife of Evon Midei. They were married Aug. 26, 1972. She was born in Philadelphia, on Dec. 18, 1950, and was a daughter of Robert and the late Florence Reinert, and stepdaughter of Rita Reinert.

Mickey was a board certified heart failure nurse practitioner. She worked for 10 years at the Center for Heart Care, Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital, in Ephrata. She was known for her empathetic patient care and community outreach projects. Mickey dedicated much of her career to teaching. She lectured at Ephrata Community Hospital, Cedar Crest College, St. Luke’s School of Nursing, KAPLAN, and Northampton Community College. Other experiences include continuing education coordinator, clinical specialist of cardiovascular nursing, and critical care nurse at Lehigh Valley Hospital, and coronary care manager at Sacred Heart Hospital. Patients, students, and colleagues knew Mickey to be committed and passionate about her work in every context. Mickey is remembered for her never-ending love for her family, her optimistic spirit, and her ability to touch so many people’s lives.

Surviving are her husband: Evon Midei, MBA, RPh; son: Brian Midei, DDS, husband of Rie Midei, of Tucson, Ariz.; daughters: Aimee Christie, Ph.D., wife of Israel Christie of Houston, Texas.; Jessica Thomas, DNP, NNP-BC, wife of Jason Thomas, of Pearland, Texas; brother: Michael McDonna, husband of Esther McDonna, of Garland, Texas; sister; Donna Reinert of Cherry Hill, N.J.; and granddaughters: Avery and Aubrey Thomas, Tessa Christie and Aaliyah Cotton.

Services were held Jan. 24 at Bethany United Methodist Church, Wescosville. Arrangements were handled by David J. Boyko Funeral Home Macungie. Online condolences may be offered at
