Catherine Kring, 103, cook, oldest St. Paul member

Catherine E. "Katie" Kring, 103, formerly of Bowmansville, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2011 in Zerbe Sisters Nursing Center, Narvon, where she resided since 2003.

She was born in Brecknock Township, a daughter of the late Theodore F. and Mary Ann (Wise) Zerbe. Her husband, William F. Kring, died Jan. 16, 1966.

Katie was the oldest member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and worked for Colonial Knitting Mill, Mohnton; Triple Z Hosiery, Bowmansville; for Dr. Wenger, Terre Hill; and as a nursing assistant and cook with Zerbe Sisters Nursing Center. She loved embroidery, flower gardening and gospel music.

Surviving are a daughter: Nancy A. (Kring) Caffrey, wife of Nicholas G. Schafer, of New Holland; grandchildren: Randy E. Kring, Rodney L. Kring, Danette L. Shelly and Daniel C. Caffrey III; great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Jamie, Zachary, Morgan, Penn, Brooke, Mitchell and Andrew; great-great-granddaughter: Olive Marie; and a sister: Ann (Zerbe) Good, of Narvon.

She is also predeceased by sons: Wilbert A. and William E. Kring; sisters: Ellen Lorah and Dorothy and Helen Zerbe; and brothers: Harry, John and Jairus Zerbe.

Funeral services were held on Dec. 30 from St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Bowmansville, with the Rev. Christian B. Creyer and the Rev. Robert A. Witmyer officiating. Burial took place in Bowmansville Union Cemetery.
